Happy 3rd Birthday!

Today we celebrated Izzy's 3rd Birthday with little brother and a couple of friends. This is party number one but Izzy was very clear that her official birthday party was to be celebrated in the country at her Nana and Granddad's house. So, this weekend we will zip out to Cedar Park Farm for the full family festivities. Her head exploded with happiness this morning as she unwrapped the mermaid tail her Mom made for her, and the joy kept bursting out with each opened package. How good it is to live with joyful children. I hope I continue to love life in a way that is even remotely comparable to my sweet little girl's enthusiasm.

Ice Cream Truck

I only lived in the city for the first five years of my life, and my memory of those first five years is almost non-existent. The one thing I do remember clearly though is the Ice Cream Truck! No child can sit apathetically in place with the tantalizing tinkle of the the Ice Cream Man's bell chiming down the street. My babies fully enjoyed there first Ice Cream Truck treat just the other day. Although the Ice Cream Truck is irresistible to children, as an adult I am less enthusiastic. Paint your creepy pedophile-looking van for Pete's sake. The rust and primer-deep chips in the exterior do not ensue a tremendous amount of confidence in the internal hygiene of your ice cream peddling efforts. I look at your sleazy van with its bald tires and well worn vintage stickers, and I am roughly seventy percent sure I could buy a significant sized baggy of brown-stained Mexican-cooked methamphetamine for the right amount of cash. We are really not talking about a lot of overhead expense here for a sizable increase in profits: scrape off the stickers, buy a professional menu board with removable letters/numbers, put some new tires on that bucket, and get a freakin' $300 Macco paint job.

Cleaned Up

I have not been real crafty lately since most of my focus has been on getting the garden up and going. And up and going it is. Every single seed I planted is busting out of that dirt and stretching for all its worth toward the hot blue sky. Now I will just wait and see if they can produce produce. A friend of mine at work gave me some busted up old pieces of wood from a retired entertainment center. I built this long desk from part of that wood. It still needs a little work, but adding it to some framed Izzy art made for a much cleaner looking office/craft area.

*Sorry about the crappy picture from my phone.

Embracing Spring

As it turns out there will not be a baby number 3...yet. It was a miscarriage. Neither one of us are really distraught, which is the opposite of how I feel like I should be feeling. I always thought experiencing a miscarriage would be far more of a devastating blow, and I suppose it would have been if this had been our first baby. But, we have two healthy toddlers, perfect weather, a working sprinkler, a growing garden and the hope of a bigger family still to come.

This "weekend" (Wed/Thu for us) has been quite close to perfect. Yesterday, we spent the first half of the day enjoying some good yard work. I know most of you are like "good?" But, honestly, you have to admit there is nothing like working hard through the sweat and then looking out at the fruits of your completed labor. Who doesn't like a fresh cut lawn on a sunny day? Nocona spent all morning and most of the afternoon cooking an elaborate meal for us and a friend who just had a new baby. The world was as it should be, man laboring in the sun and woman slaving over a hot stove. Easy women's rights liberal activist, I'm just joking...kind of.

In the evening, we packed up hotdogs and birthday cake and headed off to the park for Fruitcake and Pancake's first birthday. Fruitcake and Pancake are the little twin sister's of Cupcake. Hey, any reason to eat cake and have fun with friends at the park is a good reason. We ate our grilled our hotdogs, sang happy birthday, chowed down on cake, flew kites (actually, just watched our friend Daniel fly kites...he's got skills), rode the tricycle, picked flowers and had an exceptional spring evening. Thanks Randa and Daniel for enjoying birthday parties for dolls.

Growing Family

The garden is looking better since I mixed in a few bags of compost and planted tomatoes.  It's amazing how those little green plants bring instant life to the whole patch of dirt.  No garden can be considered complete without tomatoes.  I also dropped in a couple rows of corn.  However, the best thing growing around here won't be ready for harvest until November.  Baby number three is on the way.  A lot of people act like we are crazy or foolish for adding another but I have news...we want another after this too!  Anyone in my line of work should be a huge proponent of good parents having more kids because the reality is most good parents don't, while Thuggy McThug and Ms Crack Whore are popping out little neglected future criminals at an alarming rate.  Good people step up for crying out loud.  We are currently watching the effective de-evolution of society.  Let's not watch the idiots take over.

What in life is more important than family?  What in life brings greater joy than being surrounded by a big bunch of family members at Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July, and just random evenings lounging around together?  I think its easy to dread all the scary parts of child rearing, but I'm enjoying this difficult time of multiple toddlers and upcoming poppy needy baby.  I am also looking forward to the future...whatever it brings.

Chicken!

There aren't too many dinners better, or more southern, than homemade fried chicken, corn on the cob, and fresh watermelon.
